Here in Calabria, there are two roads we can take to get to the same place. One is shorter, but it’s bumpy and not particularly pleasant to drive. The other is a much nicer road, smooth and easy, but quite a bit longer.
One day, as we were driving along, I found myself wondering which one was actually faster.
Hmmm… I wonder which road takes less time?
Not exactly one of life’s great questions. 😂 But I was curious.
Of course, I could have tested it. I could have timed one road, then deliberately taken the other one another day and compared them. But realistically, I probably wouldn’t have bothered.
So I just wondered about it.
And then I forgot about it and went on with my day.
A few hours later…
Something happened that made us drive back the other way, and without having planned any of it, I suddenly realised that I was going to drive both roads on the same day.
That’s when I remembered my Wonderation.
Wait a minute… I was wondering about this just a few hours ago!
So this time I paid attention and timed them.
The bumpy road took 9 minutes.
The nice, smooth road took 17 minutes.
And there was my answer. 😄
What made me smile wasn’t really finding out which road was faster. It was the way the answer had arrived.
I hadn’t tried to make anything happen. I hadn’t arranged an experiment or decided that I needed an answer. I’d simply wondered about something, gone on with my day, and a few hours later life had somehow put me in exactly the situation where I could find out.
Now, of course, maybe I would have driven both roads that day anyway. Maybe it was simply a coincidence. I don’t know.
And that’s actually one of the things I love about Wonderations.
I don’t need to decide whether my wondering caused something to happen. I don’t need to explain it or prove anything. I just notice these little moments when they happen.
And the more I notice them, the more interesting everyday life seems to become.
Hmmm… I wonder… where will my next Wonderation take us? 💗
